Movie Review - Buck
My husband and I watched the documentary Buck this past weekend. If you love horses, you will love this movie. It is a documentary about Buck Brannaman who was the inspiration for Robert Redford's movie, The Horse Whisperer. Interesting parallels in training horses and raising children and also about your own lives. The film also details Buck's own abusive childhood and lovingly portrays the power of love that he received from his foster parents. The movie can feel like a commercial for the new age movement at times but all in all a good film.

Movie Review - Sarah's Key
I watched this movie over the weekend with my friend Diane. While I thought the movie was a little slow, it is a very important story that needed to be told. Aiden Quinn was fantastic as Sarah Sardynski's son, who finds out the truth about his mother's life. Bottom line, the French were responsible for 76,000 Jews being sent to the concentration camps. This true story is about Sarah and the choices she made when her family was taken prisoner by the French police in the notorious Vel' d'Hiv Roundup in 1942. Kristen Scott Thomas plays the journalist who uncovers the story and how it is connected to her. The movie is based on the best selling French novel of the same name by Tatiana de Rosnay.

Movie Review - Soul Surfer
Just watched Soul Surfer, an inspirational movie we rented from Netflix. I love Netflix! Soul Surfer is a true story about a teenage girl, Bethany Hamilton, who loses her arm in a shark attack. Great surfing scenes set against the backdrop of Kauai, Hawaii. Beautifully acted by Anna Sophia Robb. The determination that she has to get back in the water and the faith that carries her through is truly inspiring. Great family movie, highly recommend it.

Movie Review
I watched Like Dandelion Dust last night and it was okay. This movie is based upon Karen Kingsbury's novel of the same name. I really do not like when the movie changes so much about the book. Bottom line on the story, woman is abused by husband and he is sent to prison for 7 years. She found out she was pregnant and gave the baby up for adoption by forging her husband's signature on the papers. Husband gets out of jail and she tells him about the baby, he wants his son back. Joey has been living the past 6 years with the only parents he has ever known, now they have to give him back because the adoption was illegal. The book and movie scenes of these exchanges were heart wrenching. I will say that Mira Sorvino (love her!) was excellent as Wendy, the battered wife. You will have to read the book or watch the movie to see how this all turns out. My recommendation, if you have not read the book, see the movie. If you have read the book, pass on the movie, the book was better. Hubby started to watch the movie with me and then left, too depressing he said. Enough said.
